Imperial Treasure Super Peking Duck (Part 2) - Consistently Great Duck

I have written about Imperial Treasure Super Peking Duck in a previous blog entry and have raved about their delicious peking duck.  I got to try out a few other dishes this time around when I went here with friends.

We of course still ordered the Peking Duck (SGD 68.00).  The quality of their duck is consistently wonderful.  The crispy skin just melts in your mouth from the first bite.  There was very little fat and yet the meat was so tender.  I am thankful this restaurant never ceases to amaze me with their peking duck!

We had the Marinated Jelly Fish with Spring Onion (SGD 10.00) as appetizer.  The seasoning on the jelly fish was fantastic.  The spring onions I thought brought a nice flavor.

For greens, we ordered the Sautéed Scallop with Vegetable (SGD 30.00).  This was a bit on the pricey side for the serving size.  Overall flavor was good and the celery was nicely cooked without any bitterness left to the vegetable.

Last of our orders was the Braised Thick Noodle with Hon Shimeij and Truffle Oil (SGD 16.00).  This was really delicious.  The aroma and flavor of truffle was distinct but not overpowering.  This was my first time to taste truffle oil on a  chinese dish and thought the use of this ingredient was done smartly.

Imperial Treasure is definitely top notch when it comes to Peking Duck.  I'm obviously a fan of this place.  The jelly fish and noodles we ordered have also made it to my top things to try when visiting this restaurant.

Table 8 - Cantonese and Szechuan Fine Dining (Jakarta Series)

I was in Jakarta for a business trip the other day.  I had dinner with officemates at Table 8 at Hotel Mulia.  It's a pity I forgot to take a photo of the restaurant, but I fell in love with the very posh decor of the place.  They have a good buffet selection, but we decided to order ala carte instead.

We got a half order of Barbecue Golden Suckling Pig (IDR 440,000 or SGD 64.00).  Okay I may be biased due to my love of pork, but this was an absolutely amazing dish.  The skin was extremely crispy, and each bite just melts in your mouth.

For veggies, we had the Braised Sea Cucumber and Bailing Mushroom Beijing Style (IDR 68,000 or SGD 9.70).  Very nicely done as well and I just love the texture of the sea cucumber.

We also got another vegetable dish.  I didn't get the exact name, but I think this was the Braised Beancurd (IDR 40,000 or SGD 5.70).  Nice accompaniment to the heavier pork dish we had as mains.

We also had the Yang Zhao Fried Rice (IDR 48,000 or SGD 6.80).  This was a good take on this popular rice dish and had a generous serving of shrimp, fish, and scallops.

The Chinese Food was really excellent at Table 8.  And for a fine dining restaurant, the food was decently priced.  This is definitely a favorite, and will visit again if I ever find myself in Jakarta in the future.

Tung Lok Signatures - Chinese Cuisine

I had extra credit card points and decided to put them to good use by getting vouchers for Tung Lok group of restaurants, as I have read that they serve good Chinese food.  My husband and I used the vouchers for lunch at Tung Lok Signatures in VivoCity.

For veggies, we ordered the The Eight Treasures (SGD 22.00).  It's a dish with eight different ingredients -- black fungus, sliced lotus root, black mushrooms, gingko nuts, fresh lily bulbs, asparagus, honshimeiji mushrooms, and beancurd skin.  I liked how the asparagus was very crunchy, and how the texture of the beancurd skin is reminiscent of pork skin.

My husband and I were craving for scallops, so we had the Sautéed Scallops topped with Crabmeat and Roe (SGD 44.00).  The scallops were deep fried with shrimp, and it had an egg-white sauce topped with crab roe/ fat (I could feel my cholesterol level rising several points after eating this!).  Though the dish was very tasty, I felt the price was not exactly commensurate to the quality of the food.  My husband and I were expecting much bigger scallops for the price we were paying for.

Lastly, we had the Baked Fried Rice with Seafood and Bacon served on Lotus Leaf (SGD 22.00).  This was actually a full meal on its own.  It had very generous servings of seafood such as crab, fish, and scallops.  The serving size is quite big so we actually ended up taking home about half of the dish which we enjoyed for dinner that evening.

Tung Lok Signatures serves good Chinese food indeed.  However I found it a bit too expensive for the quality.  I regret not ordering their lobster which was supposed to be their most popular dish.  Perhaps I would have changed my mind on the price-value equation if I had a taste of their signature dish.

Imperial Treasure Super Peking Duck - Specialty in Roast Duck

I stumbled upon this restaurant by accident in Paragon last year after I had just moved to Singapore.  My mom was visiting and we were looking for a Chinese restaurant to eat in.  Boy was I pleasantly surprised to find such good food here in Imperial Treasure Super Peking Duck.  They had the best peking duck I had tasted!

It is recommended that you call the restaurant in advance to reserve the Beijing Roasted Duck (SGD 68.00).  They accept walk-ins, but the duck is extremely popular and has a tendency to run out easily.  The duck is good for 4 people, so it won't come out too pricey per person.

They first serve the most premium skin of the duck.  It is very crisp and melts in your mouth instantly.

They serve the duck chopped/ sliced for you to wrap in their yummy wanton.  The wanton texture is quite unique.  It's not too thick, but still very chewy.  Their hoisin sauce is also very tasty.  I always order extra wanton and hoisin sauce since I can't get enough of it.

I normally have the duck cooked a second way in salt and pepper.  I prefer this over the regular chopped or minced duck, since it gives a different flavor and savoriness to the duck.

Apart from the famous Beijing Roast Duck, this restaurant also serves other good chinese cuisine like noodles, lobster, and soup.  I have not been disappointed so far with my other orders in the past.  I will probably write about the rest of their dishes when I eat there again next time.  I personally love roasted duck so I eat here quite often especially when I have guests around.  It's very easy to find as well -- it's at the top floor of Paragon on the opposite side where Crystal Jade is.

Cherry Garden - Dim Sum Buffet

Some friends are visiting us this week in Singapore, so we wanted to have some good Chinese cuisine.  We went to Cherry Garden in Mandarin Oriental to try out their dim sum buffet.  Their buffet is available on weekends with 2 time slots  - one at 11AM and the other at 1:30 PM.

The dim sum ala carte buffet is worth SGD 48.00 per person.  Apart from the free flowing dim sum, the meal also comes with one order each of soup, appetizer, rice, noodle, and dessert.  I must warn you that you should come with some patience and restraint -- it takes them a while to serve each dish, so be cautious about over-ordering in between dishes!

For the appetizer, we had the Wasabi-Aioli Prawns.  Apologies I forgot the exact name!  It was quite good -- reminded me of my favorite hot prawn salad from Chinese restaurants back in Manila.

We ordered the Hot & Sour soup as well.  This was my least favorite of everything we ordered.  The soup was way too sour.  If I were to do this again, I'd skip the soup altogether.

For the meat course, we had the Honey Glazed Kurobuta Pork Char Siew.  I liked this as the pork was very juicy.  The flavor though was quite typical for char siew, so nothing spectacular.

And then came our order of dim sum, dim sum, and even more dim sum!  They had 20 selections for the buffet so it was so hard to choose from the list.  We ended up over-ordering.  We had the Pork Xiao Long Bao, Shark's Fin Dumpling, Prawn Dumpling, Pork and Mushroom Siew Mai, Radish Cake in XO sauce, Kurobuta Char Siew in Fluffy Bao, Netted Crispy Rice with Prawn & Mango, and Pork Ribs.

I must say that I was very happy with each dim sum dish, but what stood out from the heaps of order were the Shark's Fin Dumpling, Xiao Long Bao, and the Netted Crispy Rice with Prawn & Mango.  These were definitely our faves and ended up ordering seconds for these dishes.

Apart from the dim sum and the appetizers, we were also served fried rice, noodles, and dessert.  Honestly I could not appreciate them anymore since I was too full from the dim sum!!  The dessert looked very pretty though.  It was a Mango Sago that came with lemon sorbet and was served in dry ice.  It was refreshing after all the savory dishes we had.

As I write this blog, I am still extremely full from everything we ordered.  This was money well spent, but as I mentioned earlier, I need to practice a bit more restraint in ordering next time I come here!  So I suggest you come for a leisurely lunch and do come with a hefty appetite.
